MADE IN BRITAIN – We believe that we have greater control over our supply chain and quality if we use established UK based suppliers. Our proactive approach in sourcing products from British companies and using an experienced local workforce illustrates how strongly we believe in providing quality workmanship – and supporting the British economy.
ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY – Compared to hot rolled steel, high tensile galvanised cold rolled steel offers a superior strength to weight ratio which reduces the quantity of steel required for our buildings. Less steel means less energy expended in smelting and less fuel burned in transportation.
We are proud that all these factors contribute to ensuring that our buildings leave a significantly smaller carbon footprint than our hot rolled steel building competition.
Steel frames designed for fast construction
Tor Steel Buildings (along with our friends at Capital Steel Ltd) have the enviable reputation of supplying buildings at the cutting edge of cold rolled steel structures in the UK. For your economy and peace of mind, an on-going programme of research and development is undertaken to ensure that the buildings we supply meet and exceed British and EU engineering standards whilst keeping costs down.
High tensile steel frames together with folded brackets and top-hat or ‘Z’ purlins provide the strength. Cross, fly and corner bracing lend rigidity to the structure and our high quality coated cladding ensures that your building looks good, keeping out the weather well into the future.
Foam base, eave and ridge fillers are supplied to match the box profile of the cladding sheets. These are designed to prevent the ingress of water and vermin, helping to maintain a dry, comfortable environment within. We supply gutters, down pipes and a variety of flashings in matching or contrasting colours to ensure that our steel buildings look good as well!
Projects for self assembly are supplied with bespoke frame plans, a materials list, a specification table and the generic Capital Steel ‘Manex’ construction manual. For those with some DIY ability and a few power tools, these kits can be easily assembled. Minimal drilling or cutting is required as the main portal frames are accurately fabricated and the wall and roof purlins overlap for rigidity.
You won’t require lifting gear for the assembly of our smaller buildings. Once the columns are standing and steadied with a run of wall purlins, the rafters can be slotted in and bolted by hand. With the addition of apex brackets and completion of the roof and wall purlins, the frame is strong and solid!
The latest designs - for the greatest economy
All aspects of the structure (portal frames, purlins, brackets, base cleats, cladding etc.) are taken into account when engineering our buildings – which have a 50 year design life. Our R&D programme includes testing the strength of these structures with hydraulic rams to identify areas for improvement – one of which was the addition of welded caps on the top of our folded apex brackets. Simple enhancements such as this not only prolong the life of our buildings but also improve economy – improvements here can lead to material savings in other areas without compromising the strength of our structures.
