In 2007 we saw an opportunity to supply great quality, competitively priced steel framed buildings for commercial and domestic usage. State-of-the-art design software, a fully automated ordering and supply chain and great traditional service ensure that our customer’s needs are met on budget and on time – making us a much sought after force in the steel building industry.
SURVEY, DESIGN and QUOTATION SERVICE
Our FREE quotation service starts with a no obligation site survey, a telephone survey or we can work from plans and drawings supplied by you. Only by understanding your location and requirements can we offer practical, professional advice on the options available to meet your needs.
We’ll mail you a copy of our brochure and complete an initial design for your steel building. Once this has been amended to your requirements you will receive a comprehensive quote for the materials (and a separate quote for erection when required), all within a few days!
PLANNING APPROVAL and BUILDING REGULATIONS
Plans and drawings can be provided to assist in the planning application process. When required, we’ll help you to source local experts who can help you to gain the necessary planning approvals and ensure that building regulations are met.

MANUFACTURE and SUPPLY
Our market leading buildings are manufactured in the UK by Steadmans of Carlisle, an ISO 9001:2008 Quality Assured fabricator. With portal frames formed from high tensile galvanised steel and coated steel box profile cladding , our buildings use all aspects of the structure (base, frame, cladding and roofing) to give maximum rigidity and strength whilst using the minimum of steel. This ensures that material, manufacturing, transport and erection costs are all kept as low as possible whilst build times are accelerated.
When ready, the kits (complete with fixings, doors, roof-lights and other ancillaries) are checked and loaded onto vehicles. The automated order system is linked directly to our suppliers so that buildings are manufactured accurately and delivered to site anywhere in the UK or Europe, complete and on time. With lead times as short as three weeks, we meet the tightest of deadlines!
FOUNDATIONS and CONSTRUCTION
Once the building has been ordered, the base can be laid. Engineered base drawings are provided specifying the size, depth and construction of the foundations required for standard ground conditions. We can assist you in choosing contractors to quote for your project or if you wish to undertake the groundwork yourself, an advice document is available outlining the requirements.
After delivery, a construction team experienced in erecting cold rolled steel buildings will ensure that your building kit is assembled safely and finished to the highest standard. Erection quotations can include all plant, security and health & safety requirements.
For self-build projects, a comprehensive manual (complete with a ‘required tools’ list, building tips and detailed connection illustrations) is included. A free construction helpline is available during working hours and on-site assistance can be provided at a daily or hourly rate in most cases.

Tor Steel Buildings take care to ensure that you are provided with a building which is fit for purpose at the best possible price. Whilst looking for quotes for your project, cheaper buildings may be found but please be wary of quotes from companies who haven’t taken the time to visit your site and discuss your requirements and expectations, particularly if they don’t intend to erect the building themselves. Check that the building has been engineered for the area in which it is to be sited (BS6399) and ensure that you see the suppliers CE mark certificate, a legal requirement for anyone involved in steel framed building manufacture.
The building trade has unfortunately been sullied by dishonest operators. Unscrupulous firms cut costs by providing buildings with underspecified steel frames which may leak, warp or collapse – particularly considering our changing climate. Some firms have taken deposits and then gone into liquidation before supplying the kit. A simple check on the internet will give you the background of the director, how long he/she has held that position and how many times company’s in their control have been closed.
